Was ist schon ein Bild, wenn nicht nur
Material; visuelle Information auf einem zweidimensionalen Grund? Bilder sind
vor allem eine Erfahrung, deren Gehalt den eigentlichen Sinnesreiz übersteigt.
Die Videoarbeit »Bildbetrachtung« begleitet den Großvater der Künstlerin bei
der Interpretation einer ihrer Kinderzeichnungen. Seit 1987 hatte er das Bild
in seiner Wohnung verwahrt. Jahre später bat er nun Schomburg überraschend in
sein Arbeitszimmer, um dort in einer allegorischen Deutung des Bildes nicht nur
das Ende der Welt, sondern auch das künstlerische Talent der jungen Malerin
vorauszusehen. In der Ausstellungsvariante der Arbeit hängt die Filmaufnahme
der für die Kamera nachgestellten Begegnung neben dem Original des Bildes – von
Schomburg vergoldet und hinter einer Gardine verborgen.

What is an image, if not just the material;
a visual information on a two-dimensional space? Above all, pictures are an
experience whose content exceeds the actual sensory stimulus. The video work
"Bildbetrachtung" shows the artist's grandfather interpreting one of
her children's childhood drawings. He had kept the picture in his apartment
since 1987. Years later he surprisingly asked invited Schomburg to come to his
study room in order to offer an allegorical interpretation of this picture, in
